Why sliders are targeted

A sliding door is a large pane of glass on a track, and a worn or misaligned lock makes it one of the easiest entry points in a house. Many older latches can be defeated in seconds.

Do this quick check

• Lock the door and try to lift the panel — it shouldn't move up off the track
• Push and pull on the closed door — a good lock holds firm
• Check that a multi-point lock engages at every point, not just one
• Make sure the handle is tight and the key turns smoothly
